The DJ crew Bootytronic Suite has played an active role in the Ames music club scene for years, hosting numerous events at popular venues since 2008, according to the Bootytronic Facebook page. For the first time, Bootytronic will entertain students and the community during Veishea celebrations.
At “Bootytronic Presents: Club Veishea,” DJs will switch off every hour between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. in order to “[give] students a chance to enjoy a club atmosphere that is open to all ages,” according to the Veishea website.
The Veishea Advisory Committee helped identify Club Veishea as a “possible opportunity to reach out to students who had not traditionally participated in Veishea activities on Friday and Saturday night,” said Kevin Kirwin, Veishea entertainment co-chairman.
Their intent is to host an event that is both a safe and fun environment for students, he said.
Club Veishea will include its own light display and sound system. Bootytronic has commonly used lights, fog and lasers for its dance parties in the past.
The DJ crew was chosen to host Club Veishea because of Bootytronic’s name recognition and reputation in Ames club music, Kirwin said.
Bootytronic also has commonly held themed dances in the past. DJ Dr. Navarro’s birthday party, called “Meine Scheiss,” was held in February in collaboration with The Space for Ames 15-Hour Music Marathon. In October, Bootytronic held “Zombietronic” and encouraged guests to visit the Lime Lounge in Des Moines after participating in the annual Des Moines Zombie Walk.
Project 20/20 in Campustown, formerly the Bali Satay venue location, has commonly hosted Bootytronic events. The Bootytronic DJ crew has also appeared at venues such as Headliners in Campustown, Liar’s Club in Des Moines and The Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines.
“We hope that students will be drawn to this event because we have a fantastic lineup of DJs who will be bringing a ton of fantastic variety to the event,” Kirwin said. “There will be something for everyone.”
