As predicted, more news has been revealed about what’s to come for the end of the year. Instead of just strictly game-related or console-related, however, the most recent news has to do with both, so let’s jump right into it.
In First-Person Shooter news, Battlefield 4’s existence has been leaked in what is an epic misstep on EA’s part. On the company’s Origin digital distribution service, a banner was advertised that preordering Medal of Honor Warfighter would grant players exclusive access to Battlefield 4, a game previously thought to not be in development yet. The banner was promptly removed, of course.
Normally, leaks like this aren’t such a big deal. What makes this so interesting is that Battlefield 3 hasn’t even been out a year, and it’s still got many, many more months of DLC to release.
With BF3 still holding onto an incredibly strong position in the FPS market, many fans (myself included) are wondering why the team is already working on the next title when the current one could use some more patches; not to mention the massive amount of work it must require to crank out all of the DLCs.
Regardless, I’m thrilled about the next games. Others have been rumored as well, with titles such as Battlefield Evolution and Battlefield: Bad Company 3 (which we can pretty much assume will be the best game ever).
In hardware news, the Nintendo Wii U has received some interesting information recently. With Activision telling Nintendo that they wouldn’t develop games like Call of Duty for the system without peripheral support, Nintendo had confirmed that the Pro controller exists during their E3 2012 conference.
We’ve learned now that this was entirely because, as mentioned, big developers for other consoles wouldn’t deal with the GamePad touchscreen of the Wii U, and needed an actual controller. Activision has yet to announce a Call of Duty game for the system, but everyone can almost guarantee it will happen, so there’s no point in holding our breath.
Also: The Dark Knight Rises is getting stellar reviews! I am extremely stoked for this weekend, with a midnight release and then Guild Wars 2 to look forward to for the next 2 days after that! It’s gonna be an epic weekend with an epic blog entry to follow. Thanks for reading.
